I’ve recently been reading The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin. In it, he describes an artist who realises they’ve been working within the same colour palette for years. His advice is simple: abandon it. Embrace the uncertainty. In many ways, that’s what I’m attempting here — stepping into the urban environment and exploring photographic territory that once felt unfamiliar. Learning to notice what I might previously have walked past: geometric forms, negative space, reflections in rain-soaked pavement, figures softened by condensation or fractured in window glass. Yet it isn’t entirely foreign ground. I’m able to overlay my existing skill set on new subject matter. The result has been a renewed sense of excitement about my photography. I hope you enjoy viewing the work as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it
